What is the ‘event counter’ and how do I use it?

The ‘event counter’ is an optional resource that can be added to the trigger unit of Exostiv IP’s capture units.

To insert it for a specific capture unit, use the provided drop-down list and select the width of the counter as number of bits. Valid values are ‘Disabled’ (no counter) and values from 1 to 32. The width defines the values that can be taken by the counter, from 1 to 2^(counter width).

For instance, a width of 3 will add an event counter of 3 bits to the selected capture unit. It means that the counter will be able to count from 1 to 8.

If a trigger condition is defined for the capture unit, the event counter allows triggering the capture unit on the nth such condition (and skip the others).

If more than one capture is requested, the capture unit will trigger every nth event and skip the data around the other events.
